Planning and preparing

Life has been a rollercoaster since March when mom was diagnosed but I can honestly say that the last few weeks have been so close to "normal" that we have just been enjoying the simple things.

Nan continues to feel good; experiencing very few side effects from the chemo.  She visits the gym to see friends and keep up with her workouts and goes on outings to the Zoo and mall with us.  If you didn't know she had cancer you really wouldn't be able to tell.

We are getting ready to step back on the rollercoaster very soon though...

May 13, 2013 > Chemo #4
This will hopefully mom's last chemo before surgery.  She has gotten used to the routine of chemo now and no longer experiences the high level of anxiety she did during her first couple rounds but it will still be an exhausting day and we'll be glad to have it behind us.

May 24, 2013 > CT Scan and appointment with Surgeon - Dr. Vickers at the University of MN
I think this is the day we have all be waiting for and dreading at the same time.  We'll go in early afternoon for the CT scan which will be ready to review when we meet with Dr. Vickers, mom's surgeon.  If all looks good on the scan Dr. Vickers will change Mom's tentative surgery date to a confirmed one.  We are all hoping for no surprises on this date.

June 13, 2013 > Whipple Surgery - Dr. Vickers at the University of MN
Mom is tentatively scheduled on Dr. Vickers' calendar for a Whipple procedure on this date.  She'll probably have to spend 6-10 days in the hospital recovering and then another 4-6 weeks at home regaining her strength.

We will celebrate Mother's Day tomorrow in style with a lazy day at home and dinner at one of Mom's favorite steakhouses.  Thank you all for your support and prayers; keep them coming as we plan and prepare to get back on the rollercoaster!
